We exist to make more builders.
Xiao is a nonprofit. This is the public benefit written into our founding documents, word for word, and what each part means for your family.
The specific public benefit to be promoted by the Corporation is to democratize the ability to build. The Corporation is founded on the belief that the world is a better place when the ability to build belongs to everyone who sees a problem worth solving.
The Corporation shall make more builders: people with the capability, confidence, technical understanding, and community to make new things. It shall teach people of every age to build, and shall build alongside them as they learn. For young people it shall do this free of charge, paid for by its commercial work.
A builder has four things.
The statement names them, and they are marked in the text.
- Capability
- the skills to make the thing you want.
- Confidence
- enough belief to start, and to keep going when it breaks.
- Technical understanding
- knowing what your tools are doing, so you can fix them.
- Community
- people to build with, and to show your work to.

Three promises, in plain words.
Teach people of every age to build
Classes for kids from 7 and for adults of any age. A real person sits beside you for the first steps, because the first steps are where most people stop.
Build alongside them
Guides at Xiao are working builders. They make their own tools, and companies hire them to build. What they learn out there goes straight back into class.
Free for young people
Kids and teens pay nothing. Adults pay what they can, and our commercial work covers the rest.
Where the money comes from.
Companies and organizations hire Xiao to teach their teams and to build with them. That income pays for the guides, the tools, and the seats for young people.
Xiao has no investors and no shareholders, so there is nobody else to pay.
Adults are never turned away over money either. Sliding scale, more if you can, less if you can't.
Come build with us.
Classes are small, and a guide is beside you the whole way. Kids 7 and up learn free, and adults pay what they can.
